Labor senator Fatima Payman has avoided expulsion from the ALP, despite defying century-old convention and crossing the floor to recognise Palestinian statehood.
The first member of the Labor caucus to vote against the party’s position in government since the 1980s, the WA senator was warned by colleagues she would face consequences for voting to support a Greens motion in the highly charged debate on Tuesday night.
