Labor will walk away rather than allow Greens to call climate shots

It would be better if the climate negotiations with the Greens collapsed, rather than drag on for weeks and create the perception the minor party was once more calling the shots on emissions reduction policy, according to a growing view inside the Labor government.

Multiple MPs, both backbenchers and some frontbenchers, also confided that should the talks fall over, the Greens would be punished politically, alongside the Coalition, for failing to legislate Labor’s climate targets.
