Labor is hoping popular state Premier Mark McGowan will be its ticket to picking up more seats in Western Australia, which is shaping up as a key battleground in next week’s federal election.
Under the premier’s iron grip, Labor last year won 53 of 59 lower house seats in the Western Australian state election, eviscerating the Liberal party.
