‘Dangerous weather system’ for Sydney, swaths of NSW
A month’s worth of rain in one day could fall in a day in parts of NSW from a “dangerous” coastal trough. The Bureau of Meteorology is concerned about catchments stretching from Newcastle down to Batemans Bay over the next few days. The focus for Saturday would be around Sydney and the Illawarra region.
Rainfall is forecast to build on Saturday over the Sydney and Illawarra into Monday and potentially Tuesday, the Bureau of Meteorology’s Jane Golding says.
Train strikes
NSW Transport Minister David Elliott has blasted the Rail, Tram and Bus Union, accusing it of “behaving like children” and creating major rail delays in Sydney.
Elliott is furious over the RTBU’s refusal to end industrial action after the Perrottet government agreed to fork out $264 million to upgrade new Korean-built trains in line with union specifications.
John Barilaro quits US post
John Barilaro has handed back a plum US trade position amid a public outcry over the appointment which came after Investment NSW handed, and then rescinded, an offer of the role to a senior public servant.
