Iraq war secrecy reignites calls for inquiry
The Howard government’s secret deliberations that resulted in Australia committing to a six-year campaign in Iraq were incorrectly kept secret by Scott Morrison’s department in 2020 prompting federal Labor to launch an investigation into the administrative oversight.
The failure of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet to release the documents to the National Archives has reignited calls for an independent inquiry into the 2003 decision to join the US-led “coalition of the willing.”
