Scott Morrison and factional ally Alex Hawke will control last-minute Liberal preselections in NSW, after the party’s federal executive approved a formal intervention of the state division just weeks before the election campaign.
Mr Hawke, Environment Minister Sussan Ley and prominent Sydney backbench MP Trent Zimmerman all faced the threat of challenges from rank-and-file Liberal members, after weeks of uncertainty about authority for candidate selection within the party.
