Insurers on notice after summer bushfire crisis
Insurers will be required to explain to policyholders how retrofitting and risk mitigation measures are considered in the setting of premiums, with the federal government putting the sector on notice not to shirk its responsibilities in the wake of natural disasters.
The Morrison government held talks with the Insurance Council of Australia on Friday, offering in-principle support for recommendations from the bushfire royal commission for clearer guidance on consideration of natural hazard risk mitigation efforts.
