Australia is on track for more frequent and more intense natural disasters, requiring better emergency warning systems and national co-ordination, the bushfires royal commission said.

In a set of interim observations released on Monday, the commission said the national bushfire warning system, in place since 2009, was not consistently used around the country and included potentially confusing terms like "watch and act".
