Spending on roads, rail and other infrastructure projects has received a $14 billion boost in the federal budget, with the Morrison government claiming new and accelerated works will create an extra 40,000 jobs.
The government did not announce any big flashy new projects but among the highlights is a $2 billion road-safety program, with the government putting states on notice that they will be eligible for less money in the future if they do not spend quickly enough.
