As Scott Morrison expressed regret for the controversial robodebt scheme, lawyers for a major class action against the government said taxpayers could still be on the hook for damages and interest charges.
“That could be in the hundreds of millions of dollars,” Gordon Legal principal lawyer James Naughton told The Australian Financial Review, which would come on top of the $721 million to be refunded to welfare recipients over the coming months.
