Anthony Albanese built Labor’s bigger-than-expected election victory by locking down key demographics, exploiting geopolitical tides, and defying history while capitalising on the destruction of the Liberal Party’s base by Climate 200 and the teals.

The prime minister led Labor to one of its biggest election victories, and Peter Dutton achieved an unwanted footnote by becoming the first opposition leader to lose his seat.
