How a WA government department lost $30m on a private company

A disastrous attempt by a West Australian government department to invest tens of millions of dollars into a struggling private company as part of a housing development venture was “the antithesis of good governance”, the state’s corruption watchdog says.

A Corruption and Crime Commission report tabled in WA parliament on Thursday set out a litany of failures by department bureaucrats and private consultants in the bungled project that it estimates has cost taxpayers at least $30 million.
