The High Court has unanimously decided that controversial Federal Circuit and Family Court judge Salvatore Vasta is not personally liable for unlawfully imprisoning a Queensland man, ruling that the judiciary is immune from being sued for decisions made in court.
In a ruling handed down on Wednesday, the High Court overturned a Federal Court ruling that found Judge Vasta had exceeded his power and should pay $50,000 after jailing the man, known only as Mr Stradford.
