High Court decides no judge can be sued, even for false imprisonment

The High Court has unanimously decided that controversial Federal Circuit and Family Court judge Salvatore Vasta is not personally liable for unlawfully imprisoning a Queensland man, ruling that the judiciary is immune from being sued for decisions made in court.

In a ruling handed down on Wednesday, the High Court overturned a Federal Court ruling that found Judge Vasta had exceeded his power and should pay $50,000 after jailing the man, known only as Mr Stradford.
