Greg Combet becomes Canberra’s energy frontman

Greg Combet will have to use all the skills he learned over the decades to manage his next big job – chairing the government’s net zero economy agency from next month.

There’s nothing small about Greg Combet’s big new job. As chair of the federal government’s new net zero economy agency, he’s officially responsible for “promoting orderly and positive economic transformation associated with decarbonisation and energy system change”.

Despite the usual bureaucratic jargon about “engagement” with key regions and communities, investors and industries, it will be extremely hard – perhaps impossible – to deliver in anything like an orderly way over this decade.
