Rita Saffioti reckons becoming the treasurer of Western Australia is a bit like stepping into a Formula 1 car – world champion Max Verstappen’s Red Bull car, to be precise.

Just as the racing team’s sustained success has frustrated its rivals, WA’s recent economic dominance and successive surpluses have drawn the ire of other states, she says.
