More than 75 per cent of people believe addressing the deliberate spread of misinformation online is extremely important or quite important. On how you achieve that goal, the country is far more divided.
There is no shortage of irony in the fiery debate swirling around Labor’s crackdown on social media misinformation and disinformation – a lot of what is being claimed about the new laws is nothing short of “fake news”.
And to add another dollop of irony, most of it would not meet the threshold for action under the new laws.
