Australia and the European Union have struck a deal on critical minerals that will smooth the way for investment in new projects and build momentum to create a “green premium” market for resources such as nickel.

The memorandum of understanding could also help revive free trade talks, as it does not provide the preferential access to Australian critical minerals enjoyed by countries that have free trade agreements with Canberra.
