States pushed to support QR check-ins for contact tracing

All states and territories are being pressed to support the rollout of electronic customer check-in systems to enable rapid contact tracing as part of a program to stress test their outbreak response.

Victoria on Wednesday confirmed it was developing a system that will enable the information from various QR ("quick response") check-in applications to be automatically sent through to public health authorities if there is a COVID-19 infection breach.

Hospitality, aged care, entertainment and other businesses which have customers or visitors dwelling in their venues are required to keep details of them as part of their mandatory COVID-safe plans.
