The Department of Education is looking for mathematics specialists to assemble a suite of materials for a drastic overhaul of the teaching of mathematics in Australia under the heading Mathematics by Inquiry.

The task is one of four initiatives announced as part of the Australian government's Industry Innovation and Competitiveness Agenda on October 14 last year. This reflected the federal government's belief that various fashions in education had weakened the core competencies needed for an effective national teaching system.
