Daniel Andrews, the most polarising politician, state or federal, of the past decade, defied the longstanding maxim that good policy is good politics.

Aided by a Liberal opposition, which Anthony Albanese called “unelectable” and “a hot mess” on Tuesday, Andrews showed that the more he blundered or inconvenienced people, the more popular he became.
