A pledge by Opposition Leader Peter Dutton to dump Australia’s legally binding climate targets to cut emissions by 43 per cent from 2005 levels by 2030 has been labelled a “big mistake”.

The move would risk Australia’s membership of the Paris Agreement on climate change and follows his vow to deploy nuclear energy to reach net zero by 2050.
