Australia is poised to dispatch an emergency supply of vaccines to Papua New Guinea as the country battles surging coronavirus infections that threaten to spread to northern Australia through Torres Strait islands.

The Coalition is putting the finishing touches on a package of measures that could be announced as early as Wednesday in response to what Prime Minister Scott Morrison considers a national security crisis on Australia’s doorstep.
