China could back down on barley tariffs within days

China is facing pressure across multiple fronts to lift punitive tariffs on Australian barley, with Anthony Albanese’s trip to Beijing, the need to lock in grain supplies and avoiding an embarrassing loss before the trade umpire hinging on the decision.

The deadline for China to announce the outcome of the review of the tariffs will be hit next Friday after the Albanese government agreed to suspend its World Trade Organisation challenge.
