Indigenous businesses are emerging well beyond the traditional mining, agriculture and tourism sectors, says Mikaela Jade, CEO of Indigital, a company that teaches advanced digital skills to communities around the country.

But there are still huge barriers to entry. Problems include getting capital, hardware and fast internet, all of which are suppressing access to what some estimate will be a $12.4 trillion global industry by 2035, says Ms Jade, referring to the burgeoning 5G-driven “spatial” web economy that includes AI, augmented reality and the internet-of-things.
