Education crucial to Aboriginal jobs
Mining may offer a significant source of employment for remote indigenous Australians, but moving long-term unemployed people into the workforce is difficult and costly.
To meet Aboriginal employment targets, many companies focus on recruiting indigenous people already in the labour force, or their children when they leave school, TAFE, or university. Mining is one of the few industries to focus on recruiting the long-term unemployed, unskilled and often illiterate local Aboriginal workers.
