The arrival of the first asylum seeker boat in nine years to mainland Australia has deepened a row over national security, with Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil accusing Peter Dutton and the opposition of using inflammatory language to whip up unrest.

Mr Dutton seized on Wednesday’s arrival of the boat at a remote part of Western Australia’s Kimberley coast to attack the government for dismantling the Coalition’s hardline border protection regime.
