Australia won’t raid Pacific militaries to plug defence gaps: Conroy

The recruitment of Pacific Islanders to join the Australian Defence Force will focus on school-leavers and teaching them a trade, rather than poaching more experienced soldiers from their home militaries, Defence Industry and Pacific Minister Patrick Conroy said.

The Albanese government is preparing to open the door to recruiting Pacific Islanders to help plug the Defence Force’s chronic shortage of personnel.
