Australia under pump to protect Middle East fuel supplies

Scott Morrison is facing calls to bolster Australia’s military contribution in the Middle East to protect oil supplies, as well as step up sanctions against Iran, as tensions between Tehran and the Trump administration escalate.

As the US announced plans to send a further 1000 troops to the region after blaming Iran for recent attacks on oil tankers, a senior US commander warned that other countries relying on oil from the Middle East needed to share responsibility for keeping the sea lanes safe.
