Stephen Jones leaves behind unfinished business for successor

Ronald Mizen

Assistant Treasurer Stephen Jones will retire from parliament at the next federal election leaving behind unfinished business in crypto, superannuation, financial advice, scams, media reform, payment systems, and sophisticated investor rules.

His departure leaves a gap in Labor’s economics team, and on the powerful expenditure review committee of cabinet, which approves all new spending programs. The leading candidates to replace him are Jenny McAllister, Andrew Charlton and Daniel Mulino.
