Anthony Albanese has secured commitments of confidence and supply from existing crossbenchers to insulate Labor from parliamentary instability, as the new prime minister pledged to find common ground with his political opponents.

Hours after a historic swearing in of an interim five-person ministry, Mr Albanese declared “we can do politics better”, outlining plans for the full ministry to be selected next week and indicating the new Parliament will resume before the end of July.
