Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has warned the Coalition and Greens against Senate obstructionism on the eve of the first sitting of the new parliament, saying Labor’s landslide election victory showed voters endorsed his government’s agenda.
The government is likely to chalk up early wins on at least two of its first bills after the Coalition signalled it would wave through legislation to cut student debt and improve childcare standards. Albanese said he was bringing back parliament earlier than its required August start date to implement Labor’s “ambitious” second-term agenda.
