A re-elected Labor government will create a new standard tax deduction of $1000 a year on work-related expenses in a dramatic $2.4 billion escalation in the battle between Labor and the Coalition over tax cuts.

The announcement at Labor’s federal election campaign launch in Perth on Sunday will benefit almost six million workers who currently claim less than $1000 a year by $205 on average.
