Albanese, Hipkins sound the alarm over Solomons police pact with China

Anthony Albanese and New Zealand counterpart Chris Hipkins have rebuked Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare’s policing pact with China, warning the deal undermines regional security and is at odds with the view of fellow Pacific leaders.

Following annual leaders’ talks in Wellington on Wednesday, the two announced plans to update the defence relationship between Australia and New Zealand “to ensure it is fit for purpose, drives interoperability and enables us to respond as allies in a deteriorating strategic environment”.
