Albanese can’t afford to lose anywhere. WA just gave him hope

The state election result shows the Labor brand is still in good shape in the west. Anthony Albanese will be hoping some of the gloss shines his way.

When Labor fell across the line to form majority government in 2022 with just 32.6 per cent of the primary vote, it was all down to Western Australia.

The state, which for so long had been a federal Liberal stronghold, elected teal independent Kate Chaney in Curtin, and Labor took four more seats from the Liberals, giving it nine of the state’s 15 seats and leaving the Liberals with five.
