Albanese blocks China with $140m Nauru deal

Australia will be able to block China from striking security, banking and telecommunications deals with Nauru under a new treaty that represents the latest move by the Albanese government to sideline Beijing in the Pacific.

But the enhanced sense of security comes with a $140 million price tag for Australian taxpayers, while the Commonwealth Bank of Australia has agreed to provide banking services to Nauruans, again another measure to lock out China.
