Super tax a ‘low political risk’ for Labor, says pollster

Just one in 20 voters believes they will reach more than $3 million in their superannuation account, suggesting there is little political risk in the government forging ahead with its bill to impose an additional 15 per cent earnings tax on balances above that threshold.

As the Albanese government considers moving swiftly on legislating that tax when parliament resumes on July 22, a nationwide poll by the Redbridge Group, which sampled more than 4000 voters, found that just 53 per cent were aware of the measure, first proposed early last term.
