ACCC to target liquor, pathology, cancer clinics in merger crackdown

The competition watchdog will use bolstered powers to crack down on takeovers and mergers among liquor, pathology and private cancer radiation chains over concerns market concentration is driving up prices and hurting customers.

Private equity transactions in Australia will also receive greater scrutiny due to Australian Competition and Consumer Commission worries that serial acquisitions and roll-ups are flying under the radar, chairwoman Gina Cass-Gottlieb told AFR Weekend.
