Smart wallet encryption to get $23.4m budget boost

New smart wallet technology, which will enable people to easily and securely share their Medicare cards, passports and driver’s licences using their mobile phones, will be funded as part of a $288 million federal investment in the new digital ID scheme.

Before the expected passage this week of federal laws to establish the national digital ID system, $23.4 million has been allocated in Tuesday’s budget to upgrade the encryption of the myGov and associated myGov ID platforms.
