‘Business of law’ behind record $2b bill for class actions

The total bill for class actions in Australia increased to $1.9 billion last financial year and a further $1.5 billion worth of settlements are still in the pipeline, according to law firm King & Wood Mallesons.

KWM’s review of class actions in 2024–25 found seven cases worth $100 million or more, including a case against Colonial First State on super fees, AMP on financial advisers, Allianz on add-on car insurance and a $272 million case against Uber to compensate taxi drivers helped drive the record settlement bill.
