Big miners cop a royalty hike in Queensland

The Queensland government has slugged coal miners and big companies with two new taxes worth $2.6 billion over the next four years to help pay for its big spending commitments in health and transport.

The decision by Treasurer Cameron Dick to deliver the first increase in coal royalties in a decade outraged the resources sector which said the state now had the highest taxing regime in the world.
