Andrews forced to water down pandemic powers

The Andrews government will be forced to further water down its controversial pandemic powers legislation after the dramatic intervention of rebel MP Adem Somyurek but remains confident the bill will pass.

Mr Somyurek’s return to state parliament and declaration to vote against the bill would have tied the vote in the upper house and ensured the legislation was defeated ahead of state emergency powers expiring on December 16.
