Treasury boss rejects ‘politicisation’ attack by Coalition

Treasury secretary Steven Kennedy has rejected Coalition claims that his department has been politicised by estimating the cost of small business tax breaks proposed by the Coalition and being filled at senior levels with former Labor advisers.

Dr Kennedy insisted Treasury officials had acted appropriately in estimating the cost of a proposed tax break for small business meals and entertainment, which mirrored a Coalition policy that he maintained the department did not specifically analyse for Treasurer Jim Chalmers.
