‘Still be better off’: Cheaper childcare for most even with fee rises

Childcare centre operators and Treasurer Jim Chalmers say most families will still be better off under the government’s “cheaper childcare” initiative despite fee rises linked to higher rents and staff costs.
Dr Chalmers rebuked claims that soaring childcare costs would wipe out any benefits of the government’s $5.4 billion childcare subsidy, which kicks in on Monday.
