There is a wonderful little book called Innumeracy by John Allen Paulos. It explains the importance of understanding mathematics, and the consequences of "mathematical illiteracy" for our lives. It’s worth a read.
It seems that many countries continue to be mathematically illiterate when it comes to COVID-19. Perhaps they are unable or unwilling to heed the science.
