Following prolonged criticism of its hotel quarantine and contact tracing programs, the sprawling Victorian Department of Health and Human Services will be split into two new agencies, one focusing on health and a new entity called the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing.
The co-ordinating minister for the new department will be the current planning and housing minister, Richard Wynn, and the split will formally commence from February 1.
