China has reacted angrily after Foreign Minister Marise Payne tore up Victoria’s controversial Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) agreements with China saying the deals are contrary to the national interest.

Senator Payne announced her decision on Wednesday night that Victoria’s Belt and Road deals - tied to Chinese President Xi Jinping’s signature project to fund infrastructure around the world - would be cancelled under the Commonwealth’s new foreign veto laws.
