Biden or not, the Pacific ramp-up remains intact
Even without Joe Biden, the US and Australia have plenty to offer as a counter China’s economic heft with island nations.
Meg KeenPacific islands expertPapua New Guinea will miss a flying visit by US President Biden next week. It was to be a first for PNG and the region, but Biden will be going home to deal with debt.
But with China’s increased presence in the Pacific, the US commitment won’t wane. It’s disappointing, but Biden has said he will find other ways to engage. For now, he’s sending his Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.
