Washington | Perhaps America’s most powerful and polarising player in the future of climate change policies, Democratic Senator Joe Manchin, has found an Australian ally in his fight to preserve fossil fuels as a reliable energy source and national export.

Federal Labor politician Joel Fitzgibbon has declared his admiration for, and “determined” interest in meeting Manchin, who like himself grew up in and now represents a coal mining electorate.
