Electricity smart meters are getting smarter and will soon take over the orchestration of Australian households’ power usage, saving electricity and money.

Smart meters have been in Australia since the early 2000s and were originally introduced to make billing easier. They record a household’s electricity in five or 30 minute intervals and power companies can take readings remotely rather than requiring a meter reader to visit the property.
