Even if the electoral arithmetic makes it impossible for Peter Dutton to win next year’s election, his landmark nuclear policy proves the opposition leader wants to offer voters a serious alternative to Labor.

Dutton unveiled a major plan to take the country nuclear this week, naming seven sites he believes could host reactors. Five will be large-scale technology, with the others to host small modular reactor technology, if it can be made viable overseas.
